Funds will have a significant impact for four community organizations and their life-changing work

The impact of the Winnipeg Jets playoff run is being felt far beyond the boundary of the barn, with dedicated fans raising an incredible $234,890 during this season’s Whiteout Street Parties to support the life-changing work of four downtown community organizations.

“We are regularly humbled by the support of our fans and the spirit of our community,” said Mark Chipman, Executive Chairman, True North Sports + Entertainment. “Through United Way Winnipeg, proceeds from the Street Parties help pivotal downtown organizations make that spirit stronger and support their work toward a healthier city for everyone.”

Since 2019, True North Sports + Entertainment has helped transform fan fervour during the playoffs into tangible impacts for the city’s downtown, with half the proceeds of Whiteout Street Party tickets directed to United Way Winnipeg for critical support in the areas of homelessness, addiction, and mental health.

This year, 35,000 fans attended seven of the team’s legendary outdoor celebrations. With additional funds from seven sold-out Hargrave St. Market Party in the Plaza events, the donation totals $234,890. Chipman and defenceman Dylan DeMelo revealed the final tally during a visit to one of the recipient agencies, Okichidah Pimahtisiwin Kiskinawmatowin (OPK), this afternoon.

“Jets fans are true believers in the best of Winnipeg. They show up for their city with unwavering support—through both the struggles and the successes,” said United Way Winnipeg President & CEO Connie Walker.

“This echoes the work of these tremendous community organizations, who are great champions for Winnipeggers every single day.
“We’re so grateful to fans for extending their love of our city in this way and for making a real difference.”

The organizations receiving support are:

• Downtown Community Safety Partnership (DCSP): provides 24/7, non-emergency support, outreach, and intervention to individuals experiencing complex issues.
• N’Dinawemak-Our Relatives’ Place: an Indigenous-led resource offering 24/7 space for individuals experiencing homelessness.
• Okichidah Pimahtisiwin Kiskinawmatowin (OPK): OPK aims to nurture and support marginalized, at-risk Indigenous young adults and their families.
• Kã Ni Kãnichihk-Velma’s House: a place of safety, comfort and connection for women aged 18 and older who need immediate safety.

“It’s been a tsunami of need,” said OPK Executive Director Sheryl Blacksmith. “Thank you so much for this amazing gift and how much it’s going to change lives in our community.”

To date, more than $546,000 has been reinvested in supporting homelessness, addiction, and mental health initiatives through the Whiteout Street Parties.
